Great, Well Told Story
One means by which I judge the direction and editing of a film is whether I notice the camera or not; particularly on first viewing. If a story is well told and properly edited, the viewer should generally not be aware of the camera. Such is the case with this film. Yes, it is a classic detective story with multiple suspects, making it a bit easier for the viewer to quickly get lost in the story, but I don't think Michael Curtiz's direction should be sold short - he masterfully "just tells us the story", and that should be to his credit.
Great acting; great directing; great story. I can't recall any other 1933 film that feels as fresh and modern as this timeless classic.
9/10

Nice.
Nice movie.
BTW, at least three actors here also appear on My Man Godfrey.
